Influx, invasion, and in a few days...MADNESS!

Point the first: There has been an epic influx of new people around here in the past few days. Like, epic. The kind of influx which causes me to start doing careful web checks to see if someone has been claiming that I regularly give away chocolate, kittens, and live Suicide Girls. (Hint: I do not do any of these things.) In the end, I have to admit that I'm stumped. I don't know where y'all are coming from, and while I'm happy as heck to have you, I'd love to know where you're coming from. And yes, I get the part where I have a book coming out in three days and this might—might—potentially be influencing the sudden flood of new names and faces. Still.

Point the second: If you enter a CVS Drugs in search of the tiny, addictive balls of malted goodness called "Robin's Eggs" by the makers of Easter candy, you may find that there are no Robin's Eggs on the shelves. There are, instead, extremely similar-looking candies called "Speckled Malted Milk Mini Eggs." Now, this is basically what Robin's Eggs are, so you could be forgiven for saying "fuck it, buy generic" and picking up a bag. You would not be the first. Once you had purchased this cruel temptation, it would be understandable if you then opened the bag, and placed one of the little balls of sugar in your mouth. But I have walked this path for you, and I have come to tell you the truth:

Speckled Malted Milk Mini Eggs are NOT fucking Robin's Eggs, and whoever decided to market these things as if they were should be forced to drown in their horrific, slime-like pseudo-chocolate coating.

I suffer so you don't have to.

Point the third: My house is currently in the throes of a full-scale invasion. To be specific, it is currently inhabited by Betsy Tinney, her daughter Katie, SJ Tucker, Kevin Wiley, Alexander James Adams, and the people who normally live here. Plus my opinionated monster cats, who can fill a house all by themselves. On Monday night, the fabulous Amy McNally arrives. If we run out of coffee at any point, cannibalism cannot be far behind. You have been warned. Also, if fandom did reality show filming, we would so be prime time right now.

Point the fourth: Since A Local Habitation comes out in three days, and one of them is mostly over now, I have to warn you that I may go basically batshit at any moment, and need to be removed from the ceiling fixtures by men with tranquilizer darts filled with Diet Dr Pepper. On the plus side, again, Amy gets here Monday, and she will sacrifice herself upon my dark altar that you may all be saved. Be kind to her. She suffers for your protection.

Point the fifth: Here. Have a picture of Lilly and Alice, sitting together, without injuring each other.

Lily looks as if she is thinking "Okay, I've posed nicely with the brat. Where is my frellin' catnip?!!!!"

But they are adorable. As are your current houseguests.
Sadly, it's an awesome shot of Alice, and not so awesome a shot of Lilly. Also, it's a few months old. That size comparison is...no longer strictly accurate.

They're so precious. You'd never guess they were Ebil Super Jeenuses. *g* Jean Marie *who's been lurking for a while*
They will destroy mankind.

And then bring mankind back, on account of they need monkeys with thumbs to do their merciless bidding. Without mercy.

I linked my writing group your 5 Reasons I Love Writing. If they've passed it along to friends, that may explain some of the influx.

... I've been lurking for ages and decided that really I should friend you already? (Loved Rosemary and Rue, incidentally~)
Welcome! I'm thrilled that you loved Rosemary. I'm sure I'll eventually get over being nervous about it, but...

...not just yet.
Some of them might have come because catvalente pimped your Campbell Award comic on Friday.
Far be it from me to display atavistic greed, but...

...I really want the tiara.

I suspect that catvalente may be responsible for a few of your new friends. She said one or two nice things about you yesterday. <3

Yes, I came via Yuki-Onna, and added after recalling that somebody else had recently linked Seanan's Rich and Famous Author post wherein she demands cabana boys.

wow that is a great picture babe
"Monkey! Put down the flashy box, and pet me!"
"Wha' shiny?"
"And REMOVE THE HAIRBALL."
Caption: "My name is Lilly, and I did not approve this fuzzball."
Precisely so.
Can't speak to any of the other points, but DAMN, that's one fine set of houseguests. Even if cannibalism were to occur, it would almost certainly be entertaining.
If I were taking bets, I'd put "cannibalism" at 100:1, compared with music (4:5), fun (1:9), or good-natured mayhem (3:2).

I'd probably lose my shirt, too.

We come because you are a brilliant writer. I found your book almost on a whim a few months ago and the minute I started reading I couldn't put it down and when I finally did I told everyone I knew about it. I was instantly enthralled and I will keep coming back for more. I am counting down the minutes until I can snatch up A Local Habitation! I am even going to brave the snow for you so you should feel honored b/c i brave the snow for no one!
Oh, wow. That's awesome. Thank you so much, and I hope the book is worth the snow!
lilly looks like she's saying "srsly?" and that's a long-suffering looking face if i've ever seen one!
She's very expressive.

I am a new person! I follow catvalente's journal, and she had a post with your excellent comic about victory tiaras and chainsaws, and your journal is excellent so I added you, because I like excellence. Hello!
Me too!!

I may have burbled about A Local Habitation a bit, after first springing Oh, Michelle on someone named Michelle. Not sure that would lead people here but it might.
That's fantastic. Thanks for letting me know. :)
I really have to say this: your cats' expressions are priceless
They're good cats. I'm very fond of them.
I ran across your articles over at Aphelion Webzine, went to your web page from there and then was directed to your livejournal page through you.

I love your 50 essays on writing, I am not quite half way through them yet, and I look forward to the new ones as they become available. I also really love your short stories, but then I am a sucker for any ghost story that involves truckers, diners, and dark lonely highways. I was a truck driver once, so I'm naturally a sucker for that type of thing.

Sadly I haven't read any of your books yet. My local library doesn't carry them, and I just haven't had the extra funds to purchase any new books lately--although I did splurge and purchase elements of style for my b-day last month.

Finally. I didn't realize that other people had a deep addiction to Robin Eggs similar to mine. Gods help everyone if I can't find a bag of them for Ostara. I get one bag every year and sit and eat the whole damned thing. If If they don't exist any more or if I can't find them then the plague in The Stand may look like a simple head cold by the time I am done. MUST HAVE ROBIN EGGS!!!
Robin Eggs are amazing, and these horrifying things are evil pretending to be good.

I hope that when you get to read my books, they live up to your expectations. :)

Hello Seanan!

I work at a bookstore in Ontario and had the pleasure of shelving "A Local Habitation" when it arrived this afternoon.* It's perfect timing, because I just finished "Rosemary and Rue" yesterday. I'm looking forward to twisting people's arms encouraging them to buy it.

(*Since the book doesn't have a locked-in release date, we can shelve it whenever we get it)
For which the addicts who like to read these things ASAP are quite grateful!
I don't know how you do it all, but I'm incredibly happy that you do.
Well, thank you. :)
KITTYGIRLS. *snugs them* *gingerly*

Tell everybody I said hi! Or at least everybody who knows who I am.
I have done!
Oh, you have lots of friends like me that post about the shiny new book coming out: "Look for 'A Local Habitation' in your local bookstore!" While each of us may only reach 1-5 new people, multiply that by how many people you know and it adds up.

(candy corn congratulations hugs)
YAY CANDY CORN!

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say that more people are coming here because of the book, and then they're linking more people because you're so entertaining.

To quote Dean Winchester: "You think it's cause we're so awesome? I think it's cause we're so awesome."
*giggle*

Yay.
Lilly looks like she's thinking "I'm only doing this so you'll quit bugging me!"

But they are both gorgeous kitties. :)
That's probably exactly what she's thinking.
Wait, this isn't the chocolate, kittens, and live Suicide Girls lj? damn.

(here from the_wanlorn)
I'm sorry, Mario, but your princess is in another castle.
1. I've read Rosemary and Rue. Awesome book! I'm ready for the next one and the one after that...Okay, all of them, however many there are about Toby. ^^
2. Yes, catvalente. I read her post about you and was like, "Oh! I know who she is." {So to speak. Another fave author!}
3. Came by and read some of your posts. So amusing, quirky and fun.
4. Let's not forget about the cats too! My icon is my youngest, Oreo aka Booger Monster. {He answers to both names, but prefers Boogie.} I have 6 of them and a dog who thinks that she is cat. ^^;;
5. Tiaras are much ♥
Glee! Thanks for letting me know. Also, Oreo is GORGEOUS.
In addition to alicetheowl and catvalente, John Scalzi's recently mentioned you a couple of times in Whatever. Once with a direct link to your authors-are-not-rich post, and once mentioning A Local Habitation was in one of the regularly arriving shipments of books he gets.
*swoon*

:waves:

I came because of your comments to my comments on the fangs_fur_fey community, which intrigued me so much that I've added your novels to my Amazon Wish List.

I also heard that you were offering chocolate. It seems that I have been misled. I'm kinda disappointed. ;)
Well, yay for wish lists! Welcome. :)
