It's a movie! Yeah, we're gonna make a movie!

I'm bored, and this is dangerous. So...

Cast your movie version of Rosemary and Rue! Tell me who you'd pick to play the major roles, and why. The cast list I find the most utterly delightful will win a signed ARC of A Local Habitation.

To get you started, here are some main characters to consider:

* October "Toby" Daye
* Sylvester and Simon Torquill
* Devin
* Dare
* Tybalt
* Connor O'Dell
* Danny
* Luna Torquill
* Rayseline Torquill

Game on!

ETA: ...and a winner has been chosen. Feel free to keep on casting, though, this is hysterical!

I posted earlier with the first things that popped into my head, without really thinking about it. After going home, looking at the character descriptions again, and thinking about it a little more, I'm deleting the old post and recasting.

I hadn't been mindful enough of certain details, like the unearthly beauty of the royals and how they look young, even when they're 900 gorram years old. Which puts me at a disadvantage maybe, since most of my favorite actors have unusual, not traditionally attractive looks and haven't been young for decades. In those cases, I've added an alternate "Time warp" choice, imagining that I could cast, for example, Christina Ricci as she looked a few years after Wednesday Addams, as opposed to Christina Ricci the way she looks now.

Toby-- Emma Watson. This is one I haven't changed, and haven't doubted for an instant. Look...there's even a picture of her already in the role: http://blogs.babble.com/famecrawler/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/emma-watson-death.jpg

Tybalt--Jude Law (seems obvious to me), or Jim Carrey (seems awful at first, until you consider he did The Truman Show and The Mask. Seems to me, a good Tybalt would be a rubber-faced actor mostly known for very athletic physical comedy, but who can also act)
(Time warp choice: Danny Kaye, 1960)

Devin--Paul Bettany. Devin has to be not only dangerous and sophisticated, but able to at least seem convincingly paternal and trustworthy. I crossed off Kevin Spacey and Terry O'Quinn for looks, and David Boreanz because he seemed more like he'd be Devin's bodyguard or something than actually in charge.
(Time warp choice: Mandy Patinkin, around 1985)

Dare--Dakota Blue Richards (Lyra from The Golden Compass)
(Time warp choice: Clare Danes, about a decade ago)

Sylvester/Simon--my first impulse was Liam Neeson for Sylvester and Kenneth Branagh for Simon, and if they get to be fraternal twins, they still seem to me to be perfect for the roles. If they have to be played by the same actor, I'd go with...Neeson, in a coin toss.
(Time warp choice: Ian Richardson, 1980 as both, several years before House of Cards)

Connor--Sean Maher
(Time warp choice, Rufus Sewell, 1990)

Luna--Nicole Kidman
(Time warp choice: Carole Shelley, 1980, or Katherine Hepburn, 1960. I really wanted Shelley. She was born to play Luna, but too long ago)

Rayseline--Amy Acker. Possibly Molly Quinn from Castle.
(time warp choice: Christina Ricci, about a decade ago)

Manuel--Jay Hernandez
(Time warp choice: Jesse Borrego, 1983)

The Luidaeg--Tilda Swinton
(Time warp choice: Vanessa Redgrave, either 1970, or maybe morphing between ages 30 and 70 depending on her mood)

Danny the Troll--Adam Baldwin

Cliff--Marc Blucas. I had him down for Connor at first, but on reflection, he's just not magic enough for the forbidden fae love interest. He is however, an excellent choice for the wholesome mundane husband.

Evening Winterrose--Rita Moreno. For the voice on the phone.

Lily--Dichen Lachman

The Queen of the Mists--Cate Blanchett. It's required by law.

Quentin--Tom Felton. I wanted Rupert Grint, but he doesn't have the looks to be court page.
(Time warp choice: a very young Rowan Atkinson. Think about it.)

Arsebreath the Redcap--Camden Toy

Julie--Jennifer Garner. Her rage while being barely restrained from killing Toby would be terrifying to behold.

Ross-- Adam Sandler, so I can watch him die painfully Oh, all right. Pierce Brosnan.

Doppelganger--whoever played The First on Buffy would be a natural for this.

And...Pepe the King Prawn, as Spike.
Oh, these are some kick-ass calls.

I think the contest closed while I was typing that. Oh well, if that's the biggest bummer I have to put up with all year, I'll call myself lucky....
