Valentine's ARC giveaway!

To celebrate Valentine's Day (and the excuse that it provides—I might as well be celebrating Champion Crab Races Day on the 18th), I've decided to do something truly awesome: a three stage ARC giveaway. Yes! Three ARCs of A Local Habitation will be awarded to three lucky entries over the course of the next week!

Here's how it works:

1. Comment on this entry telling me who your favorite character in Toby's world is, and why. Be as detailed as you want. (Yes, technically, this does make the contest open only to those who've read Rosemary and Rue. As this is a sequel, I don't feel bad about that.)
2. ...that's all, actually. Your part in things is now done.

I will select winners via random number draw tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. All winners will be selected at noon PST. All winners must contact me via my website "contact" link before eight PM PST on Sunday, or another winner will be selected, and I will shake my head in sorrow.

Game on!

Tybalt. He seems like he would be fun to go drinking with.
Toby, natch.
I gotta go with The Luidaeg, for all of the reasons outlined above by admnaismith and emurphy. I'd love to see more of her.
Tough choice, especially since a number of the people I like are dead (such as Ross Hampton).

Since you asked that we pick one favorite, mine is Danny the Bridge Troll cab driver. What can I say, I have a soft spot for gruff but protective supporting characters. I hope we see more of him in future books.

Tybalt. How can I not love the King of Cats? Though my Hamlet was right when he wouldn't let me call him Tybalt, picking Hamlet instead.
Toby is my favourite. One of my favourite character types is that of the person who has experienced an enormous personal loss and has to get on with life while living with it. I like that Toby is not only a tough as nails private detective but also a mother who has lost her child.
Oh, the Luidaeg absolutely. I very much love Toby and Tybalt and Spike, but the Luidaeg is feisty and grumpy and deep as a dark sea.
Spike. Because what the world really needs right now is an adorable cat-like ball of thorns. Right up to the point where it starts rubbing against your leg and causing severe lacerations.
My favourite character is Tybalt. I love the hate-like relationship he has with Toby.
Tybalt!!!

Because clearly, Toby has completely misconstrued his interest in her, and he's going to keep her wondering and be sneaky and underhanded and then actually HELP, and she will be SO MYSTIFIED and besides, dang it, he's a CAT and this makes him AWESOME.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that he will in some way be involved when Toby is reunited with Gilly.
Oooh...tough! It's damn near a draw between Spike and Tybalt. In the end, though, Tybalt edges Spike out by a whisker, just for sheer attitude.
Champion Crab Races Day

you got a prize for that one? (clack clack clack)

Toby of course, she is why we read the books.
Ooh, I shouldn't have read the other comments first! So far, I think my favorite is going to have to be Tybalt. There's so much there that we haven't seen yet! Though I must say I have yet to not like any of the characters, even the bad ones had their coolness factors.
Toby is the obvious first choice - but I'm intrigued by the character of Sylvester Torquill, the Duke. He's someone who has been through a lot too - and I like his steady persistence in his relationship with Toby, including the very fact that he made her a knight.
Actually I like two characters, I don't know how that would affect the outcome.

I love Toby Daye as she is a feisty gal who refuses to be pushed around by circumstances. She takes no guff from anyone but she is loyal to the people who deserve her loyalty.

My other favorite character is the King of Cats. One, just because of the title and two, he's very honorable in his own twisted way. He may hate Toby with a passion but he does respect her in her strength to avoid temptation and her tenacity in living. And he will help keep her alive to avoid being in her debt.
Man, everybody picked Tybalt. I love him too, but I'm more in love with Sylvester and Luna. I love their relationship, and how they've made it work despite all the terrible things that they've gone through. I love how they won't give up on Toby. The scene where she finally goes to see them and is bracing for impact the whole way, and they're like, "OMG TOBY OMG *glomp*" and she's all, "...but... but my drama!" is one of my favorites in the whole book.

Also, Spike is win. And I'm so curious about Toby's daughter Gillian.
Tybalt, because he's snarky and complex, like Toby, with the added bonuses of having panache and sometimes being a cat.
I also say Tybalt, because he likes to tease Toby but when things get serious, he gets serious too.
Tybalt. I think he's sexy :P Um, proper reasons... I love the interactions between him and Toby - I think he cares for her despite the way she interprets his actions. I love a bad boy - Tybalt is a lot of things, trouble is definitely one of them. I like how he's there for Toby when she needs him.
Its hard to pick a favourite. I love Toby and how strong she is despite her vulnerabilities. Spike is awesome and I want him as a pet.
I'm a cat girl. I also chime in with Spike and Tybalt, just by virtue of their cat-like features.

The rose goblin is just so darn cute (including your drawing of it, Seanan) and I can't resist cuteness. And Tybalt, King of Cats, is awesome for so many reasons. He's just the kind of character I adore.
I love the rose goblin because it is adorable AND spiky which makes it awesome.
Raysel, because I always like the insane faeries.
Here is my official not-a-comment-on-a-comment entry / vote for Tybalt, because (as I wrote before)

Toby and Tybalt both tease us with the idea of more complex history to be revealed later, but Tybalt more so because we've learned less about him so far. That, and I can clearly hear him in my head.
