In honor of George Romero's birthday, I am giving away an ARC of Feed to one lucky commenter. This is a random draw giveaway. At noon Pacific tomorrow, I will use my magical random number generator and select a winner. They will then have until noon Pacific on Sunday to send me their mailing information (through my website), or I will pick another winner.
So please! Comment! Tell me your favorite thing about zombies, or why you want to read Feed, or what you'll do if you win, or whatever. (I mean, a comment beyond just "comment" is nice, but not strictly required.)
George Romero gave the world zombies. In honor of his birthday, so do I. Because zombies are love.
Feed is coming!!!! I wish I had a slightly more . . . excited-looking zombie icon to more accurately express how giddy I am right now, but there ya go.
I don't expect I'll win this one--you have lots of LJ visitors far more dedicated than me--but I'm giddy anyway just because this release is finally coming!
Oh--also, I don't know what my favorite thing is about zombies, precisely, but my favorite zombies are definitely the Silent Hill nurses. It could be argued that they're more demon than zombie, but they still kick ass.
It is quite funny how many "zombie" related things I see lately, that make me think of you. Thankfully, they rarely combine "zombie" and the apprpriate orange colour, so you do not have to fear being inundated with and buried under zombierelated surprise presents... ;) I'd be delighted to get to read Feed soon!
I am *so* looking forward to how you write zombies (as I am also one of those people who research things like pandemics--both past and potential--for fun).
Though I do not (sadly) own Dawn of the Dead, I am sure I will watch Shaun of the Dead instead. There is another zombie movie in our collection (Zombie Strippers, sigh), and I'm just not sure I can watch that one again. Or maybe I'll reread King's Cell.
I've been telling my horror loving friends that they have to read this book (and promising them you know your tropes enough that it won't be cliche, cliche unless you deliberately send one up, so you better not let me down"
Argh! It was *so close* at Interfilk last weekend. In the immortal words of Igor from Dork Tower, "Huzzah! It must be mine!"
Also, I don't know if you noticed, but my son was wearing his Zombie Food Pyramid T-shirt at people all day Sunday. You probably got beamed at at least once. He was particularly aiming for you and Tom Smith. :-)
Currently my favorite thing about zombies is how much joy you get in discussing what they mean to you! I'm loving it!
Not knowing any zombies personally, I think it would be interesting to see some news/infotainment person interview one, or perhaps a panel of them. Kinda like the Geico caveman commercials...which beat the heck out of that annoying Progressive Insurance lady with the perky scarf in her hair. But I digress...
You know I want to read FEED because it's about two of my favourite things: zombies and the internet.
If that weren't enough, I also know your writing tends to be generously slathered in awesome sauce. This will be splattered with blood in addition!! What's not to love?
Hmm. Zombies currently would probably be able to get more use out of my brain than I can given it's died from work? That's about as original as I can get right now :)
I'm not sure I have a favorite thing about zombies, but I have a favorite world authority on zombies (I wrote a song about her once).
Hmmm.

I take it back, I do have a favorite thing about zombies. As Our Hostess, you've seen this before, but the only place it's ever been posted online was in the comments on the other LJ way back when I wrote it, so here it is again for the benefit of the new gallery. [Explanation for said gallery: Seanan had just posted the lyrics to "Country Song", and I have the sometimes-dangerous knack for free-associating filk lyrics into existence given a sufficiently enticing prompt...say, "country songs and zombies".]
'Twas a gray April evening, on the streets of San Francisco; I ran into a blonde gal -- we were waiting for the BART; And as we sat there gazing down the tracks beside the platform, I remarked upon the emblem that she wore above her heart.
She said, "Yes, that's quite a chainsaw, and I'm not afraid to use it, For I am a pretty princess, and I bask in all things pink, And I'll gladly give a lesson in the art of killing zombies For a Diet Dr. Pepper," and she gave a friendly wink.
Well, I handed her a bottle, and she drained it in one swallow, Then she palmed a Luna bar, and took a single bite; And the platform went all quiet, a guitar riff twanged from nowhere, And she said, "The thing with zombies is you have to kill them right."
REFRAIN "You've got to know when to dust 'em, When to combust 'em, Which ones to dunk and drown, Which to behead; You never count your zombies in the middle of the slaughter; There'll be time enough for counting when the legion's dead."
"Now any zombie hunter knows the secret of survival Is knowing when to run away, and knowing when to fight; 'Cause sometimes there's too many, or else the script's been written, And that's the time to hedge your bets and pick another night."
Now, she might have gone on longer, but the BART pulled up before us, We got onto diff'rent cars; I haven't seen her since; But as the train got moving, I could hear a ghostly chorus With a chainsaw in the background, that I'll bet was set to "Mince".
I have a very nice "What Would A Zombie Do?" spinner that I won at Conflikt. Should it be disturbing that a lot of the things on the spinner, like "Shamble" and "Drool," are things I do already?

Zombie Hunter S
words: John C. Bunnell ©2006
music: Kenny Rogers ("The Gambler")
'Twas a gray April evening, on the streets of San Francisco;
I ran into a blonde gal -- we were waiting for the BART;
And as we sat there gazing down the tracks beside the platform,
I remarked upon the emblem that she wore above her heart.
She said, "Yes, that's quite a chainsaw, and I'm not afraid to use it,
For I am a pretty princess, and I bask in all things pink,
And I'll gladly give a lesson in the art of killing zombies
For a Diet Dr. Pepper," and she gave a friendly wink.
Well, I handed her a bottle, and she drained it in one swallow,
Then she palmed a Luna bar, and took a single bite;
And the platform went all quiet, a guitar riff twanged from nowhere,
And she said, "The thing with zombies is you have to kill them right."
REFRAIN
"You've got to know when to dust 'em,
When to combust 'em,
Which ones to dunk and drown,
Which to behead;
You never count your zombies in the middle of the slaughter;
There'll be time enough for counting when the legion's dead."
"Now any zombie hunter knows the secret of survival
Is knowing when to run away, and knowing when to fight;
'Cause sometimes there's too many, or else the script's been written,
And that's the time to hedge your bets and pick another night."
Now, she might have gone on longer, but the BART pulled up before us,
We got onto diff'rent cars; I haven't seen her since;
But as the train got moving, I could hear a ghostly chorus
With a chainsaw in the background, that I'll bet was set to "Mince".
