Are you wondering what to get for the person in your life who has everything? How about for that workplace Secret Santa, the one you barely know but sometimes see in the mail room? Or are you just looking for a treat to reward yourself for getting through 2009 without killing anybody with an axe? Well, then, might I recommend Rosemary and Rue [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy]? Which, to make things even more exciting, made the Locus Magazine Bestsellers List for September 2009? See? It's a bestseller! That means it's the perfect winter holiday gift! (Also, it takes place at Christmas, although hopefully, your winter holiday of choice will be more pleasant than Toby's.)
If you were hoping to get a signed copy, they have them at Borderlands Books in San Francisco, and they do ship. And, of course, all three of my CDs are available through CD Baby (the live album, Pretty Little Dead Girl, is about six inches from going out of print).
By this time next year I'll have four books and four CDs to worry about, so I won't necessarily be fussing quite as much over a single title (although, having met me, like, ever, you know that I will). But anyway, in short, Toby makes the perfect holiday gift. She'll drink all the eggnog and pass out on your living room couch, and she may throw things if you try to wake her, but on the whole, she's a really mellow house guest.
Really.
I swear.
Now please get her out of my house, and into yours.
Do you know perchance if your books are available at Canadian chains? I haven't been to a bookstore in a shamefully long time and I've got at least one gift card gathering dust...
I love you, and I'm quite fond of Toby, but you're kidding me. Everywhere she goes she is followed by homicidal maniacs! If she's not following them! Not to mention sentient shrubbery. I don't consider blood, fish scales, cat hair, rose petals OR raving lunatics to be holiday decorations.
And while I was out Christmas shopping, I gifted myself with a copy of 'Night of the Creeps'. I tell you, because you are the only one who will appreciate it.
And tonight he shows me that he's halfway through the book and says, "It says it's an October Daye novel. Where's the other ones?" And I reply, "That's book one, book two comes out next spring. And also her zombie novels start coming out next year." I made a convert, I am a good minion, I am!
I was at a bookstore with a friend tonight. I lent her my copy of Rosemary and Rue earlier and she read it and enjoyed it. Tonight we saw it at the store and she picked it up, announcing "I am going to buy this book so that she'll write more!" and asked when the sequel was coming out. :-)
Get her out of your house? But it's not like Rosemary and Rue is Pretty Little Dead Girl. You don't have a pillowfort of Rosemary and Rue books. You're not fulfilling orders yourself. Oh, no. You have a publisher! And a distribution chain! (And that's pretty awesome).
But I guess the getting out of your house was more of a metaphorical thing, in hindsight.
This was my Thanksgiving gift to myself. Read it this month and totally loved it. Working on my review on my blog, want to get my thoughts out correctly from brain to blog page. Really looking forward to next year's books from you. More October, please.
Oh, fabulous! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and don't worry; there's definitely more October coming. Says the girl who's currently neck-deep in book five.
Will she bring a rose goblin to aggravate my cats?
I really need to get another copy. I almost did while on vacation (glad I didn't: our suitcase got soaked on the way back courtesy of a MASSIVE DOWNPOUR in PHOENIX ARIZONA, wtf? - two books waterlogged, but neither irretrievably), but that Borders only had two copies left, and they were well-placed for impulse buys. I wanted to give folks a chance to impulse buy. I'll grab a copy at Powell's when I have a chance.

Well, maybe the cat hair.

Yes, she will.
