Horror movie trivia challenge!

Let's have fun with horror movie trivia, perverted to my own demented sense of 'trivia.' Also, because I am rarely a timely blondeheadgirl, I'm not going to wait for Halloween.

The game:

Hollywood is a busy place, especially when it comes to producing horror movies. Can you figure out the movie from the synopses provided below by bored and underpaid copy writers who never actually saw the film?

Example: Following a chance encounter, a spoiled daughter of nobility chooses to abandon the traditions of her native land in order to pursue a relationship with a member of another ethnic group, although doing so may lead to her early demise.

Answer: The Little Mermaid.

Ready? Twenty questions, no asking -- rock yourselves hard! Answers are not screened.

***

1. Condemned convicts reach a small American town, where their large appetites and inability to speak the language put them at immediate odds with the natives.

2. An industrial accident in a slowly dying mining town leads to it becoming a swiftly dying mining town, as chemicals in the water supply react oddly with imported wildlife.

3. A brilliant researcher allows alcohol and jealousy to interfere with his professional judgment, and runs human trials of his latest invention before it is quite ready, leading to dire consequences.

4. Young love takes a dire turn as a teenage outcast finds himself caught between two women that love him, one of whom also loves his best friend, and the other of whom may spell his downfall.

5. The head of security for a large medical research facility finds a bad situation made worse when a local power failure allows for a wide-scale release of accidental test subjects, and must both fight for freedom and to prevent their escape into the local metro area.

6. A Halloween prank gone wrong floods a small New England town with unwanted guests, resulting in a local boy finally finding -- and losing -- the girl of his dreams, who had left town some time previously, against her will.

7. When a local beauty chooses money over love, her husband's unexpected midlife change of life gives her an opportunity to reassess that choice, and possibly make amends with the man who truly loves her.

8. Several young men with an interest in the occult are presented with the opportunity to make observation-based judgments on the reproductive capacities of lycanthropes.

9. Unexpected consequences of a long-awaited astrological event lead to several small children being enlightened as to the true nature of Santa Claus by individuals other than their parents.

10. A botanical expedition to South America goes unfortunately awry, and several unwanted lessons regarding the size and ferocity of the local wildlife are learned.

11. Viral latency and its potential consequences for an unprepared society are explored as an individual who does not manifest symptoms of a virulent infection is brought into contact with a more susceptible population.

12. Unsafe building materials lead to an extreme fire and safety hazard.

13. The isolational properties of technology combine with the inevitable hubris of excessive early intelligence to bring about a return to a less advanced sociological model.

14. The true consequences of breaking and entering are brought to light through the interaction of alcohol, primitive audio-visual equipment, and unfortunate issues with the local flora.

15. Although they were never fully able to establish their union, two individuals connected by shared tragedy are forced to support different sides of a potentially deadly conflict, both propelled by events beyond their preference and control.

16. Introduction of a non-native species into a major metropolitan area results in extensive property damage and unexpected, unpleasant clean-up duties.

17. The negative consequences of exposure to pop music are highlighted when its true destructive potential is finally unleashed.

18. The necessity of access to clean and plentiful drinking water is brought directly to the forefront of this cautionary tale of hubris, social isolation, and class struggle.

19. Enhanced intelligence in combination with poorly-maintained and conceived locks on the pantry allow the snack bar to open early.

20. A lack of consideration for fire safety leads to an ongoing series of tragedies unforeseen by even Smokey the Bear.

BONUS: I wrote the following prompt, then wandered away to do something else, and when I came back, I couldn't remember what movie it referred to. Any guesses?

"Violence-based quarantine of a segment of the greater population leads to inevitable sociological fragmentation and uprising."

I'm culturally illiterate when it comes to horror movies, so I'm not even going to try. Just wanted to say I love the icon.
Best guesses:
1. Critters
7. Slither

Unfortunately, my horror-fu is weak.
I only can guess Slither 'cause, well, she wrote a song 'bout it. (o/~ Gold diggin' is a fine tradition... The courtship of the purse... o/~ ) And I'd have had to look up the name.
(My ascii notes just do not come out well in this font.)

...The rest, I am totally unable to guess. Horror movies either don't do anything for me, or work way too well. I didn't sleep in my own room (with its walk-in closet) for YEARS after I was dragged to Poltergeist around age 10-11. They lied to me and told me it was "a funny movie." LIES! ALL LIES! I only slept in my own room again when we moved and I had a bi-fold door on the closet. (I finally got over it -- mostly -- when I was around 15.)
13 sounds much too much like Lord of the Flies.
8. Sounds like one of the Howling movies.
10. Sounds like both Anaconda movies.
Wildish guesses, but fun:

5. Jurassic Park
12. Carrie
16. Godzilla
20. Also Carrie (all horror movies involving fire are Carrie, right?)
7. Slither
16. CLoverfield?
11. 28 Weeks Later
3 The Fly
5 Resident Evil
10 Anaconda
15 Species II
16 Godzilla

All guesses or at least I could, through appropriately torturous explanations, justify my reasoning. Several others sound familiar but I can't quite make a match. I do agree that 13 sounds an awful lot like Lord of the Flies but I never really think of that as horror.
well my horror fu sucks, but the bonus sounds like Doomsday. (I just re-watched the beginning last week)
8. Teen Wolf (has nards!)
17. Mars Attacks! If um, Welk is pop.
18. Gremlins
19. Jurassic Park! Okay no, but apparently when someone says "snack bar," I think "velociraptors!"
My guess for 18 is 'Dune.'
I was more thinking along the lines of "Tank girl"

No, I immediately thought velociraptors too. But then I read XKCD.
5. Resident Evil
10. Anaconda: Search for the Blood Orchid?
18. The Faculty
3: Jeckle and Hyde?
7: Slither
11: Outbreak?
12: Inferno?
13: Planet of the Apes?
16: The Blob?
19: To Serve Man?

Bonus: Escape from New York?

I do not actually watch many horror movies.
Wo, and there I thought I knew movies... was I ever mistaken.
My best guesses:
3. Seriously Cadhla.... All of them!
5. Haven't seen it (yet) but I would guess "Resident Evil 2".
7. "SLiTHER"
12. uh... I thought you said Horror... Otherwise I would go with "Towering inferno"
15. This almost sounds like "North and South", but it might also be the "Resident Evil" when taken as a series...
16. I'm finding it harder and harder to stay in the Horror Genre... Thus I go for "Godzilla" (the recent one with Mathew Broderick and Jean Reno)
17. My first thought turned to H2G2's "Disaster Area", As I'm unable to find a DVD release, this might not be the correct answer.
Bonus. And to finish my mainly non-horror list: "Escape from New York"
Heh. I almost guessed Godzilla and Escape from New York as well. Although since I've never seen Godzilla, I didn't know for sure he was "introduced" rather than just wandering there -- and it had been too long since I'd seen EfNY to remember an uprising inside the prison.
7. Slither
14. Little Shop of Horrors

Maybe? My horror movie background is not strong.
18. Cabin Fever?
2. Eight-Legged Freaks? ... Or 80% of the SciFi B Movies?

16. Godzilla, Cloverfield, one of the Jurassic Park movies (2?), Gremlins, and arguably Muppets Take Manhattan, but that's up for debate. ^_~

18. Dune, Tank Girl, Signs, erm, Tank Girl? ... heh ^_^
Hmmm. Bearing in mind that the Little Mermaid example suggests a...flexible definition of "horror", let's see:

3. The Fly (agreeing with sasquatch1313
5. The Secret of NIMH (a wild guess)
9. Bad Santa (an educated guess)
12. Carrie (okay, this is probably stretching)
14. The Blair Witch Project
18. The Wizard of Oz
Very few guesses, but here you go:

7. Slither
10. The Ruins or Anaconda
11. I AM Legend
15. Resident Evil II
16. Cloverfield or Godzilla
10. King Kong
12. Towering Inferno
18. Tank Girl (it could apply to Waterworld too, or even Dune, but you're more Tank-Girl-leaning, I think)
20. Carrie

The bonus sounds like Escape from New York (or maybe LA).

I was reminded of this one too - "Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again."

3. One of the Spiderman movies
6. It
10 I would say Jurassic Park if it wern't for 19
11. The Stand
12 Carrie
18 Tank Girl
19 Jurassic Park
20 Firestarter

Bonus: I am Legend? Aoen Flux?

16 - King Kong?
17 - Attack of the killer tomatoes?

The bonus sounds almost like something from the X-men comics -- but I've not seen X-3, so I don't know if there's a movie reference.
