More exciting news from the land of excitement and pie.

Upon returning to my humble abode, I discovered that a) my room looked like it had been hit by a small explosive device, b) my cats missed me, c) I get a lot of mail in the course of a week, all of which was cascading off my desk and enhancing the appearance of being under siege, d) my cats missed me, e) it is possible to be too damn tired to feel like getting online, f) my cats missed me, and g) Morpheus has a mean right hook. Half of Sunday was lost to the blessed, blessed mists of sleep, where I enjoyed the wonders of not being awake, and my cats enjoyed the wonders of knowing exactly where I was at all times. It's good to be easily satisfied.

Since returning home, I have turned in Rosemary and Rue* with all editorial notes incorporated, started processing the editorial notes on A Local Habitation, processed a bunch of edits on An Artificial Night, and chewed through another twenty pages of Late Eclipses of the Sun. The universe has thus decided to reward me by revealing the identity of my cover artist. Moreover, the universe has decided to reward me by confirming that he's contracted for the first three books, meaning that we'll have an ultra-consistent look and feel to the volumes. (This is the part where I faint from joy.) Best of all, I don't have to try keeping it a secret, which might cause me to actually explode -- I have permission from DAW to share the glory. I think this is probably because they don't want me to try holding my breath for however long. Are you curious? Do you wanna knoooooooow?

I realize that I'm supposed to be cool and professional and above dancing around waving my hands in the air and screaming. I am sorry to say that I have not yet achieved that level of zen, and am, instead, dancing around waving my hands in the air and screaming. It's fun! You should give it a try. And seriously, look around the galleries, and just marvel at how insanely lucky I am to be working with this publisher. I have total faith that my cover art is going to be the kind that gets it right, and that's just amazing.

I am not ecstatic about some of his covers featuring women, but even the ones I really dislike showcase females with sane breast sizes, so hey.

I will take my cue from your delight and assume this is going to be good. :) Congratulations on a joy-causing event!

I've never encountered an artist where I was ecstatic about ALL their work, but this one hits a lot more often than he misses. I really am thrilled. Even if I'm starting to be afraid that I might be asleep...

Holy crap! Isn't there like a rule that your first book gets a shitty cover with someone else's characters? A rule which strictly forbids the incredible psychic stylings of Doctor Paints-a-lot who travels to fictional universes, photographs your characters, and then pretends like he just painted them? DAW LOVES YOU SO HARD.

I take it from your reaction that he is known to actually get it right, not just be pretty. That rocks. I definitely like his art, so if he also sticks to matching the source material, that does indeed rock greatly.

He does the covers for the Dresden Files books and, at least with the ones I've seen, he matches the source material pretty well on those. Also, this means that people who like the Dresden Files who are scanning for new books are more likely to stop and look at these, even if they can't articulate why. And since I think for the most part people who like the Dresden Files are going to like this series, that's probably a good thing.

that is so very awesome! I like the feel of the art for Toby. I think I'm most looking forward to An Artificial Night.... sure you couldn't talk them into an illustrated book for that one?

That artist is incredible and you're very lucky to have someone so talented. With all the covers these days that are really basic stuff, it's good to know that your books will have covers that actually relate to the content.

I checked on your website and there isn't a contact postal address for you listed -- can I get it please? I had it and lost it and I've got something to send you.
