One month in the wild. Where are we now?

As of today, Rosemary and Rue [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy] has been out in the wild for an entire month. It's been spotted in chain stores and independent booksellers, in airports and at train stations, in basically every state in the United States and in countries around the world. We are officially well and truly past the point where my publisher can go "ha ha, tricked you" and order up a bonfire. (Not that I ever really thought that they would, but if you've ever met me, you know that I can be twitchy on an Olympic level.)

I have not yet seen a stranger reading one of my books in a public place, which is probably for the best, as I'd either start to hyperventilate or give myself brain-freeze trying to decide whether I should go over and offer to sign it for them. This doesn't stop me from watching the reading material of the people around me.

Most of the people I know have either purchased Rosemary or swear that they're going to do so Real Soon Now, Honest. (Since I don't intend to check their bookshelves for proof, these assurances are sort of pointless, but they're also really funny, so I'm willing to roll with it.) My mother has probably purchased five or more, but she's my mom, so it's okay.

The page proofs for A Local Habitation have been reviewed and returned to my publisher, which means we're on-track for book two. I'm super-excited. I'm also plinking away at book five (The Brightest Fell), which is rapidly becoming my favorite in the series to date.

Because it's an anniversary, I feel like I should do something to celebrate. So, because it makes sense, I've decided to give away a copy of Rosemary and Rue. Here's the plan:

1) Comment here, telling me why I should give you a copy of Rosemary and Rue. Do you want it for you? Do you want it for your school bake sale? Have you just been dying to test the aerodynamics of a paperback book fed through a wood-chipper? (Actually, I probably won't give you a book for that last one, but I'd love to come over and watch the experiment. With someone else's book.)

2) That's all.

I'll pick a winner tomorrow. Be detailed. Be creative. Detail and creativity count. So does bribery, but that's a distant third.

I don't want you to give me a copy. I rather enjoy buying them (3 so far) to support an author I actually give a damn about...
Awwww, thank you, sweetie.
I'm late to this post so I'll start by saying that phantomdancer and tibicina had good points.

With a second copy I'd send it as a gift to a cute girl I know.

I hope you can locate a second copy where you are. Because I'm sure the cute girl would appreciate it.
I'd give just about anything for a signed copy of R&R.

I *have* ordered a copy (unsigned) from Amazon, but it is only three weeks into their 6 week delivery timeframe (you'd think Australia was on the other side of the Universe the time it takes Amazon to ship here) and the Australian release of R&R is not until 23 November.

If I were to find myself the owner of a shiny signed copy, I would either donate the unsigned copy to our local library (over a month before it even hits the bookstores here), or send it to one of the ladies on my flist who is in real financial straits (as so many are), but who loves urban fantasy and zombies and pretty much any really good read. (I might even just send her a copy anyway, since she keeps missing my hints about going and reading R&R)
After much "but mailing things to Australia is haaaaaaaaaaaard" whining at the cats...

...you have always been wonderful, and I love Australia. Email me through my contact form with your mailing address. I will make there be good things.
Are you serious? OMG! SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

Thank you sooooooooo much! *prostrates self and worships all that is Seanan*
Rosemary and Rue is on my wishlist -- has been since it came out, but I was doing a kaz_mahoney-like "no books purchased this month" thing over the past two months and thus haven't yet gotten it.

So, I think you should give me a copy because it's my birthday this coming week, and that'd be nifty. I will read it for me and will write about it either on my blog or on Flames Rising (where I'm currently woefully behind on my reviews, sadly).

(And I still need to have you guest blog, gosh darnit!)
Because it is your birthday: email me your address, and I'll mail you one of my remaining ARCs. All signed and lovely and you can pick up a paperback when your book diet eventually ends. :)
Seanan, thank you! That's very sweet. As it happened, I got a lovely large gift certificate to B&N for my birthday, and Rosemary and Rue was one of the books I picked up. :) If there are others still in need of ARCs, please move them to the top of the list -- I'm happy with my paid copy. :)
Well, then, yay for a paid copy, and just let me know when you want me to guest blog. :)
First: bwahahaha at that icon -- I hadn't seen that before and it's *perfect* considering I'm currently doing a proofreading assignment. :)

If you have time, I'd love to run a guest blog either this coming Friday (23rd) or the next (30th) from you. (Most likely the 30th, as I'm expecting to post a guest entry from slwhitman on the 23rd.) I'm excited to host you!
The 30th would probably work better for me, so let's shoot for that. Can you email me with the details of what you need/want?
I'm a teacher. I am so inundated with teaching manuals, employee handbooks, materials on pedagogy, and wading through grant and scholarship applications...I am dying for a fiction book. I read them in tiny spurts these days, like trying to make a good bottle of wine last a realllly long time.

So I would probably try to draw R&R out for days, batting away any spoken conversation from my room mates with "Not done with this chapter yet! Go away!"

I'm also coming down with a cold. Between work related stuff driving me nuts, the divorce driving me crazy, and the incoming plague, a book to cozy up with while hiding from everything would be wonderful. And I can review it afterward, since I wrote my Very First Review this week and found I like doing them.
I'm having a heck of a time making decisions on this one, but my high school English teacher would beat me for not understanding the plight of teachers. Would you be happy if I sent you one of my remaining ARCs? I wound up with a few left over, and that's also a neat thing, from a teaching perspective, to be able to say "look, book in pupae form!"

Anyway, if that sounds keen, go ahead and drop me your address through my website contact form.
My daughter has my copy next on her to read list. Somehow, I doubt she'll relinquish it when she's done. Or if she does, it will probably go to my mother. A copy for me to keep would be fabulous!

I'll probably be buying copies for winter holiday gifts, since I know many people who would probably enjoy it :-D
As you can buy many copies, I hope that you will, and I thank you dearly for commenting. :)
I know you said you haven't seen anyone reading your book in public, but I went to Sea World for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I was reading your book there while I was eating lunch! (And can I just say that Sea World has really gone downhill since I was an ankle-biter?)
Awesome! (No disagreement here. I miss the decadent animal parks of my youth.)
I don't know if you've chosen already, but I'd like a copy. I want it for me (that makes me sound so selfish), because I've been looking forward to this book since a friend of mine turned my onto your LJ a while back. As both my husband and I are currently unemployed (which has sent him back to school and me into a charity-like job training program) and have zero income, I've been unable to purchase a book for myself in over a year. Since I'm an avid reader, this makes me sad. Your book would help :D
There's nothing wrong with the occasional dose of selfishness where new books are concerned. Seriously, trust me. Anyway, I'm not so full up on actual paperback copies, but I have a few ARCs left. If you'd like me to throw one your direction, go ahead, drop by my website, and send me your address through the contact link. Include your LJ handle, if you'd be so kind, just so's I know it's you?
Just dropping by because your LJ came up on a title search for Rosemary and Rue and I love LJ and following writers on LJ, to tell you that I picked up RR in a small bookstore in Greenville TX and zoomed through it in a couple of days and loved loved loved loved loved it! (There's not a review up on my LJ yet because I finished it last night *coffcoff* fairly late and am at work today).

Hello, and welcome! I'm so glad you enjoyed Rosemary and Rue. My head is split just about evenly between A Local Habitation (book two) and The Brightest Fell (book five) right now, so I keep feeling like I've slammed into some sort of weird time-warp when people are talking about book one!

Anyway, glad you're here, and I hope you have fun. :)
