I am on the very front of the "selected paperbacks" rack.
I am face-outward on the science fiction and fantasy shelf (where, thanks to an accident of alphabetization, I'm located about a foot from Stephanie Meyer).
They have, from quick count while hyperventilating, about twenty-one copies out and on display. If you're not going to make the book release parties, or want to buy multiple copies, or just can't wait, this would be a dandy time to go and make the books go away, so that I can keep on breathing.

Or so it was...admittedly, been out of the bookseller arena for several years now.

It depends on the author, 'tis true. I asked the bookseller such, and she said R&R had no Strict Sale Date, but that it wouldn't be available until then anyway because of how their shipments stack schedule-wise.
I left the bookselling arena a few weeks ago, myself; bookworms make the best employees, because recommendations are never scarce, but they also make bad employees, because when someone comes in and says "I don't read, but I need a book to impress this girl..." (or some other such thing that always begin with "I don't read..."), we die a little inside every time. Not to mention contemplating throwing something at them (preferably a really thick hardback).
