First sighting in the wild.

I realize that we're eleven days early. That's probably why I feel like I'm having a coronary right now. That having been said, the first sighting-by-author of Rosemary and Rue in the wild has officially occurred, at the San Francisco Borders located at 4th and King.

I am on the very front of the "selected paperbacks" rack.

I am face-outward on the science fiction and fantasy shelf (where, thanks to an accident of alphabetization, I'm located about a foot from Stephanie Meyer).

They have, from quick count while hyperventilating, about twenty-one copies out and on display. If you're not going to make the book release parties, or want to buy multiple copies, or just can't wait, this would be a dandy time to go and make the books go away, so that I can keep on breathing.

Wow, already? The book in the wild, not your hyperventilating.

Congrats! It's real!
I'm amazed I haven't exploded.

You have to keep breathing, I don't think Lily & Alice would like it if you stopped. :)

And you do realize this means I have to go hunt my local stores & see if it's in, right?

Please keep breathing... & congrats :)
They'd enjoy burrowing into my ribcage...
You are soooo cute!!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
You have been SELECTED.

And not by a Nigerian prince or a British lottery!
Which is a pity; I'd love to be a princess...
Excellent! Okay technically not because they fucked up and broke the deadline but HI BOOKS!

You should squee more. It's okay. ^_^
As long as it's not a one-day laydown I don't think it's that much of a big deal to be early, right?

Cool, and confusing. If I could I'd fly to SanFransico and buy one. But that would be very silly. I don't have a passport.

Don't for get to breath
I'm trying!
Congratulations!

My short review: Good read. I'm recommending it to friends and family. :)
Remember, long reviews make Alice puffier.
Well done.

Hope they sell well and you get enough used to the sight of them not to have to hyperventilate but not so used to it that it doesn't still make you grin and feel all cosy inside.
They seem to be selling okay so far...
Breathe.

I wonder if I should let my f-list know that they might be able to capture a wild Rosemary and Rue if they hurry?

Breathe.

Because I do have friends I need to remind that is is being released soon.

Breathe, dammit!
Er, actually, I think it might be out. Everywhere. 'Cause I just got a call from my home non-Borders bookstore.

Your icon pleases me immensely.
YAY BOOKS!
Scary, wonderful books.
Congratulations!
Thank you!
You win!
Was planning to kill some time at Borders this afternoon anyway. Now I have something to look for! Squeeeeee!
Keep me posted!
So, is this every Borders or just the one?
Several, not every. Yet.
Awesome!

I've been talking up the book to my co-workers, btw (advantage of working in a geeky tech shop)
Oh, spiffy!
Wait, but isn't your Strict On Sale Date September 1? <winces as the bookseller part of her brain flails>

Oh, well! More screen time! <emails all her friends in San Francisco to alert them that it's on sale now>

AngelVixen :-)
Luckily for us, most new authors don't have Strict Sale dates, just release dates (not subject to the same rules).

Or so it was...admittedly, been out of the bookseller arena for several years now.

...this would be a dandy time to go and make the books go away...

I hate to rain on your parade, but isn't it possible that they'd just order more? Furthermore, if they all disappear off the shelves, wouldn't that just raise your profile as a strong seller, making other bookstores order more?

Of course, I'm not going to let this stop me from buying a copy, should my local stores be kind enough (or careless enough) to let some copies loose early. But I think you might want to save some energy for freaking out and flailing later on, just in case things get really fun.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to speculate on the motivation here. This was obviously deliberate, but the why of it is curious. Do you have a pre-existing fan on staff? Did somebody on staff read the book early? Is this part of a secret conspiracy of time travelers which reaches all the way back to some time when somebody you didn't know handed you a DDP?

...okay, maybe not that last one.
What do you mean? It's definitely the last one.

Yay! :)
Hee.
Eek! I can see why this is trauma inducing, but it does mean that your books have shipped and that distribution is not going to be a problem. That angle at least is very good. Plus you're already into recouping the costs of the book by just a little bit.

As to whether the chain as a whole allows books onto the shelves before their official release dates, I suspect it varies store to store, even within the chain.

At the very least, you're getting a preview of your publicity and placement campaign, and it sounds boss.

*gets you some more air*
It's going well so far...
BLAST! I was near the bookstore earlier today and didn't go in to check because I was waiting for the release date!!
Ooops!
Whoot! Congrats, Seanan.
Thank you!
*offers a paperbag*

Congratulations! It's nice to see creations sent out into the world.
They keep coming back to be signed.
*hugs the flailing woman* Breathe, you need the oxygen so you can write the next chapter of TBF...
I'm working on it, I'm working on it.
