Home safe, still half-asleep.

My flight from Montreal (technically from Boston, since it was a two-stage trip home) touched down in San Francisco last night at approximately nine-thirty, safely reuniting me with the state of my birth. Hooray! My mother collected me from the baggage claim area, shortly before we collected my suitcase from the baggage carousel, and we took off for the East Bay.

The trip itself was somewhat more...exciting...than I tend to prefer, involving as it did a twenty-minute connection that required me to sprint most of the way across Boston Airport. I was crying and hyperventilating by the time I hit the security gate for United Airlines, which, thankfully, caused security to be very nice to me, and got me to my plane on time. (Also, it exhausted me enough to spend most of the six-hour trip to California totally unaware of the world around me.)

Mom and I stopped for dinner at Denny's, since the particular structure of my trip home had denied me the option to eat. I miss the days of bad airplane meals that at least contained calories...

WorldCon was fabulous, and I'll post about it later, when I leave the "fire bad, tree pretty" stage of cognition. Big thanks to my fabulous roommates, Merav, Jon, and Susan; to John, for picking me up from the airport; to Deanne, for giving me a place to crash for a few hours before the fun really got started; and to the entire DAW Mafia, without which I would have been entirely lost.

Next year...AUSTRALIA.

Glad you're home, and glad that this:

John, for picking me up from the airport;

...worked out.
Yup. John was awesome.

Hee! I'm always fabulously excited when someone I know on lj is in the Bay! (Imagine my gosh when I found out T.A Pratt actually lives in Oakland.)
Hee! Yeah, I'm deep East Bay (although I'm in Berkeley at least once a week).
So, are the kitties in the "Our Human Is Home! Yay!" or the "You Left Us! Bad Human!" stage of reunification?
The former. My girls don't do "grudge" very well.

I'll put this in now - skip United for Australia, fly Quantas. Yes, you could actually pick up a flight schedule now - they rock that hard.
I'm planning to fly Virgin Australia, if I can.
Glad you enjoyed WorldCon. Now, back to work :)
Already on it!
Better Logan than O'Hare.

But I do have an interesting image for you about my folks at Logan, in the early 80's, on a Sunday (this is important since Mass. has 'blue' laws), waiting for their flight which was delayed due to mechanical problems elsewhere (and my dad an airline mechanic), sitting on the floor of the terminal since what seats there were had been occupied, drinking wine (which they had to purchase in New Hampshire before coming to Boston on a Sunday - 'blue' laws, remember) out of a paper bag because they had no cups. At the time my folks were in their late 60's - early 70's.

No one would ever believe that if someone wrote it into a story.
...no one would believe it, and yet it's adorable.
I am sorry your transfer was awful. I am glad we got so much time together.

I just wish I'd gotten more sleep.
You may have done better that we (and a few other fen on the same flight) did. We were on what was supposed to be a 4PM flight from Montreal to Detroit, landing at 6. The flight was four hours late, then they failed to tell us that our bags had come in on an earlier flight and were sitting in the back of the baggage claim office, not coming out of the carousel. We got home at midnight, not the 7 PM we'd originally planned.

I will, however, happily agree that the con was fabulous.
Oooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Okay, you win the suck award.
Welcome home. I sent you a thank you for the Writing Thoughts series to the return addy from Stars Fall Home. Just fyi, that is what the package is; no need to worry about strange packages arriving unexpectedly. I'm too mean though to tell you what it is. Mwa ha, and I hope you like it.
Since you're in the US, you're not the one who sent me the bad disaster novel from 1901, right?

Thank you for hugging people! NOW SLEEP, OKAY?
Too tired to die cat is too tired to die.
It was good to get to meet you, though we didn't seem to get a proper chance to talk. Next time....!
Kari
I'm so glad we got to meet! It makes things ever so much better.
I miss the good ole days of flying with food and more comfort. Glad you made it home whole and hale. How about your wax pumpkin?

The con was a blast and a half. Cheers!
I put it in my carry on, and it made it home just fine! Now it's sitting next to Orange Octopus until I can clean my room enough to find it a place.
Am so looking forward to having you here in Melbourne :-)

Now, I must save up the money to attend. Well, at least I won't have to pay for accommodation ;-)
See, there you go: there's a bright side to everything! (I'm doing World Fantasy in San Jose by sleeping in Jeff and Maya's garage.)
