Seeking questions which are asked frequently.

So I'm in the process of (once again) revamping and updating my FAQs, partially because I'm getting more writing questions (yay!), and partially because I need to be prepared to split the Toby questions off into their own FAQ somewhere around October 15th. Bearing this in mind, what do folks think I should add to my FAQ section? The current categories are...

...writing.
...general.
...music.
...horror movie survival.

The horror survival FAQ may wind up moved over to Mira Grant's site once it gets up and running, just so we'll have content there; I don't know yet. I'm not taking questions for a Toby FAQ yet, because so few people have been able to read it, and any questions beyond the very simple ones already on the site would be spoilery.

What should I be answering? Ask away!

I do not currently have a world conquest FAQ, because I do not want to get to know Homeland Security that well. But thank you!

Well, that depends on what you mean by "more"? I mean, I've already covered the topic pretty exhaustively in the FAQ that's up now, from what I can see. Did you have some specific question in mind?

That splash page on Mira's site is very cool, especially the "red all over" joke.

Did you ever get into why the Mason series is being published under Mira Grant, and where the name came from? Actually, something on the business of psuedonyms in general would be nifty. I'm always intriguied when writers make up new identities for themselves and why.
I did not. In fact, I've basically said that every time I'm asked, the answer is further delayed, because it's a big and complicated answer, and I dislike being pushed.
Oh crap. Sorry! I'm not trying to push, just curious! The topic will never cross my keyboard again!:)

I need to be prepared to split the Toby questions off into their own FAQ somewhere around October 15th.

Yeah, best not to have a specific deadline on that one. I hear that aiming at an October Daye is dangerous.
...I have to kill you now, sweetie.
Some of your comments and essays about the art of becoming a professional writer made me think about manuscripts and drafts and suchlike.

Scans of "Seanan doodling on a legal pad" through "first typed draft, covered with proofreader feedback" through "draft as sent to agent" through to "book as finally published" would be a neat sequence (and, in a marketing sense, one that might well get linked to and pull people in who will then be exposed to that fragment of the story itself...).
Something that might be a good split for the two FAQs is 'Who are your fantasy influences/Who are your big horror influences?', which allows you to plug your favorite authors, and also gives a search engine a good reason to connect you with the people who influenced your writing, and thus brings people who enjoy those writers to you.

*takes off SEO geek hat*
Thanks for the thought.

Re: Horror Movie Survival

How can the short of stature/lacking of upper body strength survive your average night of the living damned?
Answered!
So here's my questions, and I hope it's not too cliche: Where do you get your ideas?
It's not that it's cliche, it's that it can't really be answered. Sorry.
So, if a zombie rises in a forest and eats the brain of the only person around to see it, is it still an uprising? :|

No, but seriously, my question would be...

Lyrics: How the HELL do you write those?
...I don't understand the question.
Like... I'm always trying to write song lyrics. And they come out sounding worse than the worst pre-teen pop NONSENSE. How do you make your lyrics sound... not ridiculous?
