I...I...holy cats, people, IT'S A BOOK.

Rosemary and Rue was just reviewed by Publishers Weekly.

To quote (just a little, although wow do I wanna quote a lot more), "Well researched, sharply told, highly atmospheric and as brutal as any pulp detective tale, this promising start to a new urban fantasy series is sure to appeal to fans of Jim Butcher or Kim Harrison."

There is absolutely no way this football is being yanked away from me.

Holy cats.

She's got friends on the East Coast, and will surely have fans... so I'm sure she'd love to get to one at some point! I'm hoping for DragonCon, myself. ;)

(Just seeding that in your brain, Seanan, don't mind me. DragonCon. Or the Decatur Book Festival.)

I wouldn't do Dragon on a bet; it's almost as big and far more nuts than ComicCon and it's far too *scattered*. Much better at a fan-run con, at least *I* think.

I love DragonCon. It's huge, it's an incredible amount of fun, and it's well-timed to truly enjoy Atlanta, one of the most beautiful cities in the South. I've been told that I should charge people to accompany me to the World of Coke.

The only things keeping me away from DragonCon are money (I haven't had much) and timing (it keeps lining up with things I'm already committed to).

You clearly only hear about Dragon*Con from outside.

Either that or you've got a severe dislike of crowds, in which case, sorry for ya; our planet is crowded.

Dragon does awesome things for Atlanta's economy. The con and congoers both in the main work to keep everything manageable, and the tracks mean whatever fandom you dig is all in one place.

It's not nuts if you plan, pace yourself, and choose your panels wisely. Google docs and a PDA make it simple.

The Dragon staff are some of the most devoted fans, and the majority of them are unpaid, doing it for other fans and the sheer joy of being at DragonCon.

I meet and get to socialize with people at Dragon that I couldn't otherwise, as they are from all over the multiverse planet.

I've known Seanan for a decade and honestly I'd prefer a week to cook for her, introduce her to the East Coast awesome blonde, and whirl her through Lush, Dave & Busters and Cafe Intermezzo. But failing that, I will be better than thrilled if she makes Dragon*Con.

So I guess it's a good thing neither Seanan nor I have a bet with you, and we'll see her there in 2011.

Sadly, DragonCon 2010 is on the same weekend as WorldCon 2010. WorldCon has Australia. Australia trumps essentially anything less than a swimming pool filled with komodo dragons, an endless supply of my enemies, and an alibi.

Do you know nlbarber? She regularly does the Decatur Book Festival in preference to DragonCon each year.

She also does GaFilk [.org], which you could also be encouraging Seanan to come to.

As long as we're being so encouraging, Seanan, you're definitely welcome to come to GaFilk at any time. autographedcat would definitely not complain.

I know, I know, but it's really, really badly timed for me, since it slams up against my birthday, several local conventions, and the general "vacation window" that includes the UK con.

That really isn't how it works. I don't get approached about anything; my agent and/or my publisher get approached. If a deal is public, I can tell everyone. Until the deal is public, I can't tell anyone.

Fair enough. It's pretty exciting seeing your books coming out at all, but it'd be great to be able to get them in hardback.
