A world in need of wicked girls.

So—for a variety of reasons—I've had the song "Wicked Girls Saving Ourselves" stuck in my head for roughly a week now. This has started to drive me insane. Consequentially, I spent a good chunk of yesterday composing new verses, just so I'd be singing something different. I found this so entertaining that I've decided to make it a party game (yes, this is now officially a party). Give me a girl from folklore, myth, literature, or hell, modern media, and if I have a clue of who she is, I'll write a verse.

A few rules:

1. Fictional people only. Real people go in the bridge, and I already re-write that every time we do the song live.
2. One girl per customer.
3. Jean Grey is not eligible.
4. Don't make me come over there.

Game on!...and now, game off. I already have more than I can handle, and I can't handle no more. Thanks for all the great suggestions, and please don't provide any additional girls for consideration in today's admissions.

Click here for the girls we've invited to join us so far.Collapse )

Candy Smith-Foster from _Emergence_.
ROFL!

I still need to track down Emergence; I discovered (and devoured) Tracking after picking up an Analog to get one of kaath9's stories.

Actually, I think Candy deserves her own song. Made up entirely of her self-descriptions... 8-)

If you don't have her already, Eris (of the golden apple which started the Trojan War).
Hrm. I adore Eris (one of my books even has Her avatar in it, making trouble), but she doesn't really suit as wicked and saved. Sorry, honey.

I love the Wicked Girls songs, and was able get a friend to listen to your music by playing that song for them.

You beat me to it! Seconded. And, Seanan, I'll lend you the books (in audio format if you like) this weekend if you need to brush up on them.

Red Riding Hood! (In the original folklore, she really DOES save herself!)
Yeah, that was my thought.

My first inclination is to suggest Polly (from Fire and Hemlock) or Janet (from Tam Lin), but they kinda already are wicked girls saving themselves.

Second suggestion:

Elaine, of Arthurian legend.

Seconding Janet! I love "Tam Lin" soooo much, though exactly why, I do not know. Possibly her massive attitude and the way she takes hold of every situation and, yes, saves herself and gets exactly what she wants.

Christine Daae?
I never felt she saved herself. I'm sorry!
Hel (of Norse mythology). I think she'd be fun, if you're familiar with her.
I love this idea!

Either Kim Possible or Shego, from Kim Possible, lyricist's choice.
I got nothin'. I'm sorry.

This may be a bit weird since you have Dorothy in your song, but what about Elphaba from Wicked?
This one got done! Yay!
Siduri, from the tale of Gilgamesh. She didn't get much "screentime", but can you really beat being the barmaid at the end of the world?
It's been too long since I've read the story. Sorry.
Real girls get the bridge? Okay.

Eleanor of Aquitane.
Not quite that sort of real girl, but that's an awesome idea.
A girl at one time known as "Tailkinker", if that means anything. :)
Heh.

If you have not seen it already, you might want to have a look at this fanfiction challenge over on Dreamwidth. There are rather a lot of prompts derived from that book....

I'm going to make you come over here. Double dog dare and all that.

If, of course, you know the references and that too.

Veronica Mars. Wicked Girls is one of my all time favourite songs, I am so, so thankful you recorded a version so quickly after posting it.

The Companions of the Doctor - whichever of them inspire you for this
Dorothy just wanted something that she could believe in,
She was angry and lost and alone, and too bitter for grieving,
But she played her cards close to her chest and her hand,
With an ace in the hole, seeking somewhere to stand,
And when she met her savior, she asked him, "Is anything true?"
He said, "Roses sing, skies burn, come on Ace, we've got work to do."
Janet from Tam Lin by Pamela Dean.
She's been done! Check the post. :)

I haven't read the book, unfortunately.
Pippi Longstocking
...now I need to write a Pippi song. But alas, it will not be here. :( I'm sorry.

Did you ever get around to reading the Enchanted Forest books? If so, Cimorene.

If not, you can just take me as seconding Veronica Mars and Pippi Longstocking.
Veronica has been done, Pippi has refused to play.
Paksennarion from Elizabeth Moon's fantasy series of a few years back? (Sheepfarmer's Daughter started it)
Sadly, I am insufficiently familiar.
Jame from P.C. Hodgell's God Stalk series.
YES!

Kitty Pryde from the X-Men/Excalibur.
Katherine Pryde was a good girl who tried to be better,
A slip of a thing with a spirit that no man could fetter,
And she slipped through the walls that were put in her way,
And it seemed in the end, she was too good to stay,
But they say that she saved the whole world, and they say she was brave...
It's a shame that the brave ones are always the first to the grave.

Sleeping Beauty - "Stepsister Scheme" version?

(Though Irene Adler and Shego do tempt one to jump on those bandwagons...)
Talia woke in a world that was strange beyond measure,
A princess turned into a toy for a lesser man's pleasure,
But she made her escape in her shame and her shock,
Though there's no weapon forged that can turn back the clock,
And she'll never go home, for her home is some many years gone...
And the true curse of slumber is this: she alone soldiers on.
