canadianevil has posted a slightly longer and more detailed review, which is something else that pretty much always makes me happy, and hopes we'll be seeing more of the less-central fae races in the books to come. O people of the world, you so have no idea...
These things are pleasing unto me, and a good way to begin a morning. Also pleasing unto me: this Diet Dr Pepper.
One of my resolves is not to read Amazon reviews. :) For better or for worse, Amazon reviews tend to be very unbalanced in one direction or the other. It's not universal, but it's enough that I've had a lot of people warn me to avoid them. (Having looked at the reviews of books I've read and have some comprehension of, I can agree that the trend is there.) "Normal" reviews, I'm welcome to.
(Also, yay! I'm having a lot of fun going slowly mad. It all balances.)
Now you see why I failed at book reports in school. I am either very terse (recommended) or I put spoilers all over the place (which upsets some people).
I just finished reading it for the second time, which meant that I paid more attention to details and plot bunnies. You had clues all over the place and I missed them.
I also had fun with your setting because I know those areas of the Bay Area and used to drive them myself. I think I knew Hunter's Point and the Presido better than a lot of people.
Took a while to percolate through my grey matter but it finally hit me - you are not going to let me get away with any self-effacing BS, are you?
Now I don't know whether to try to change tactics or just accept it and change my approach to myself. You are really unpinning six decades of carefully built self-delusion. I hope you are happy about that. @;>
I originally got it to use when responding to a really obnoxious poster in a comic forum and have found that it covers so many things. Uh, well, you get the drift. *grin*
